Richard Laribee was born in central New York but grew up on the Florida Keys, serving as deckhand for his father, a fishing and diving guide. Thus began his life-long love for the sea.
Academically, he earned master's and doctoral degrees, and taught in several colleges. Teaching at the American University of Iraq (Sulaimania, Iraq) gave him the opportunity to study, explore and experience Middle Eastern culture in depth. Pastoring churches in two denominations gave him the opportunity to study, explore, and deeply experience the classic spiritual disciplines in community.
A passionate traveler, Rick has explored and photographed natural, cultural, historical and religious sites in Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Italy, China, Mexico, Central America, South America, Wales, Scotland, England, Spain, Canada, the US, and the Caribbean.
Currently, Rick serves as a pastor in southern Maryland, and continues to enjoy sailing, speaking, writing, exploration and discovery.
